Game 5 vs Padres
Alright let’s get down to business, it’s late, the Cardinals just put together their best game of the young season and everyone is probably hitting the sheets immediately.
KYLE GIBSON?!?!?!?
Kyle Gibson went out in his Cardinals debut and absolutely turned in a gem. Gibson would cruise over 7IP, inducing two double plays, striking out four, while giving up two solo shots.
Offensively, the Cardinals jumped on Waldron early and often, tagging him for four runs in the first two innings.
Arenado would break out of his early rut, driving in Donovan with an rbi double. Contreras followed that up with a 2R donkey shot to dead CF off a knuckleball up in the zone.
Goldy would drive in the fourth run with an rbi single to LF, plating Donovan who doubled the at bat before.
Donovan would finish the night with three hits, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. He would blast a 2R HR of his own off Kolek in the 6th to make it a 6-1 game.
Gonna give a quick shoutout to the defense from Masyn Winn and Jordan Walker tonight, but specifically Jordan friggin Walker!!! Walker would make the best play he’s ever made in the outfield tonight to end the 5th, robbing Merrill of extra bases by laying out fully extended to his right. The reaction from Kyle Gibson said it all.
Romero/Helsely would team up for the 8th and 9th, both using under ten pitches to end their innings and secure a Cardinals winner, 6-2.
Miles Mikolas (0-1, 10.38) takes the ball in game two, matching up with Yu Darvish (0-0, 1.04). First pitch scheduled for 8:40pm c/t.
Cheers, Stew
