Game 2 Recap - Pirates vs Cardinals

What’s better than Uncle Charlie pitching on a Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium? Nothing comes close. Waino zoomed through his 6 innings/ 5 strikeouts of work this afternoon, working four 1-2-3 innings, really only getting into trouble during a 26-pitch 2nd inning. With the win, Waino moves into a tie for 3rd place in franchise history with most wins with 163.

Here’s his pitches by inning:

1st- 10

2nd- 26*

3rd- 11

4th- 11

5th- 14

6th- 11

Goldy would get the bats going early, connecting on his first HR of the season. Goldy smoked a Williams middle-cut fastball to Big Mac Land to make it 1-0 (104.1mph exit velocity, 381 feet).

Dex and Prince Sex continued where they left off last night, each driving in a run in the bottom of the 4th on back-to-back RBI singles.

The 4-run 7th inning was enough to seal the deal this afternoon. Crick would work into trouble, loading the bases with two outs without a ball leaving the infield. Pauly Deez would then beat the shift, driving a two-run single into LF to make it 5-1. A pitching change and a batter later, Carp Daddy would rip a two-run double off left-handed pitcher, Robbie Erlin to extend the Cards lead to 7-1.

Tommy Edman capped off the scoring in the bottom of the 8th vs Erlin with a two out, two-run triple off the LF wall (missing a HR by inches) to make it 9-1. HE WAS GLIDING around the bases, GLIDING!!!

Dakota Hudson gets the ball tomorrow afternoon, facing off against Mitch Keller. First pitch is at 1:15pm c/t. Can’t wait to see those beautiful Sunday caps and the high socks.

Cheers, Stew
