A Positive October - Day 16

Daniel Poncedeleon

If I can keep it up all month, 31 days of positive posts! There's going to be enough negativity going around with the Cardinals not in the post-season.

Day 16

Daniel Poncedeleon wasn't even supposed to be here. Last year he got struck in the head by a 90+ mph line drive off of the bat of an opposing player. He went immediately to the hospital. His LIFE was in danger. That's the damn positive, yes?

Poncedeleon had pitched in only 6 games at the AAA level when he got struck by that liner. 331 days later, he returned to AAA for his 2018 season debut with Memphis. 4 days later (335 days after his horrific injury, he started a game at the AAA level of the minors. He made it to the majors 105 days later - 440 days post-injury. Incredible.

That would be amazing enough in itself. WOULD BE. Why isn't it just that? The dude pitched well. He was asked to throw in 11 games - 4 as a starter, 7 as a reliever (finishing 2 games). He had a 2.73 ERA, 3.34 FIP, 2.38 K:BB, and 1.121 WHIP in 33 innings as a major leaguer this year.

I mean, just wow. What an inspiration! This could be freakin' all 31 days worth of positives right here. Just wash, rinse, repeat. I won't do that, but I could...and that would be enough.
