It is currently the bottom of the sixth inning and Pirates pitcher Nick Kingham (I had no idea either) has faced 18 Cardinals and has retired all 18 of them. Alternatively, he is nine outs away from a perfect game. Huh.
The last perfect game in Major League Baseball was thrown by Félix Hernández on August 15, 2012. I remember the day well because I had jury duty, was dismissed early, and went home and caught the last six innings of this random afternoon game. It was very cool. Plus, Hernández was on my fantasy team at the time and I was handsomely rewarded.
This one would not be as cool.
Also, the Cardinals have never had a pitcher throw a perfect game, and they have never been the victims of a perfect game (six other franchises can say the same). No need to change that now.
Get on base, Cardinals.
UPDATE: They did it, they got on base. We win this round, Pittsburgh.
